Since missing periods is a sign of pregnancy most women feel and think that they shouldn’t discharge any kind of blood throughout the tenure of their pregnancy. Pregnancy generally lasts for nine months divided into three trimesters and it is normal to see blood spots during any of the trimesters. Why women get worried by seeing blood is because of the possibility of miscarriage and that blood is not red but brown in color. Actually it is normal to have a brown color discharge and nothing to be alarmed of.
Brown colored blood discharge during pregnancy
The most common factor for the blood being brown color is because it was lying inside the uterus since long time and now body is trying to eliminate that dirt from your body and hence the color is little darker than red which seems to be brown to naked eye. All the blood is generally dispensed during the menstrual cycle but there is possibility that some of the blood might get accumulated within the cervix and when the woman gets pregnant the inner lining of the uterus, vagina, cervix etc starts to thicken to protect the baby and hence during that time the body might flush out that blood.
During implantation also the body releases blood for the nourishment of egg and some of that blood might get accumulated within the uterus itself and that blood also if released later would be darker in color. When the fertilized egg implants itself to the wall body releases extra blood for the egg and sometimes the egg does not utilizes all the blood and some of the blood has to be dispersed but sometimes the body might not dispense it immediately and the blood will stay there inside the vagina and would turn darker in color.
Brown colored blood after Period
A woman body is designed to shed out all the waste blood during menstrual cycle but under certain conditions sometimes the blood remains accumulated within the uterus or cervix and when after some days it is discharged finally it is bit darker in color. There is nothing to worry about color, dark color means that the blood was lying inside the body for some time and it has been discharged a bit late.
Like in normal periods the blood discharge during pregnancy also indicates that the body is removing out bacteria, dead cells, old uterus lining etc. You do not necessarily need to see a doctor in these scenarios unless you also have itching, pain, fever or other symptoms etc. Itching is a signal of any kind of sexually transmitted disease or infection and requires medical attention and if there is any foul smell then it also indicates infection.
So brown blood discharge in itself is not any kind of problem but only if it is accompanied what other symptoms then you should be worried. For example if you also experience pain or joint stiffness then it could be due to existence of pelvic inflammatory disease which is a very serious problem and requires utmost care and immediate medical attention. Pelvic inflammatory disease or PID if not treated immediately can turn into cervical cancer.
