Pregnancy is accompanied by several type of cramps and pain but there are some severe pain that require immediate medical attention. One of such pain is the ovary pain. Ovary pain should not normally occur while you are pregnant and hence if you suffer with any kind of pain in your left or right ovary then you need to immediately see your Doctor. Ovary produces egg and hormones but once you conceive it stops producing eggs and only continues with the production of hormones. So due to this change they the possibility that it can get infected, however if prompt action is taken then there would be nothing to worry about.
After proper inspection your doctor can advise you appropriate antibiotic along with rest. You should immediately stop any kind of heavy physical activity and should always stay hydrated. It generally takes maximum seven days to recover from an ovary infection.
Causes of Ovary Pain
Although very rare but there have been occurrences where ovary continues to shed eggs in the Fallopian tube even during pregnancy. There have been few cases where women have actually conceived twice even they are already pregnant. Hence the ovary pain could also signal that you might be still ovulating. The scientific term for this kind of pain is Mittleschmerz which is derived from German language and means middle pain in English. Hence if in case you experience any kind of pain in your ovaries then you should immediately notify your doctor to examine for any kind of complication or second conception. The symptoms stated till now occur during early pregnancy or in the first trimester.
Once you reach second trimester, one thing is sure that you have already passed the level wherein there are no chances left for any kind of miscarriage. But still you can experience a pain in your ovary during second trimester as well. Now this can be a dangerous situation for your child and hence sometimes it even require surgery for the safety of your unborn baby. The ovary pain in second trimester can be caused by fibroid or cysts which is also a hereditary disease or it can also be caused by gallbladder stones. At this time the pain is much severe and is more dangerous. If in case this is due to fibroid then you might need to go for an early delivery. Because the fibroid can spread to uterus and can harm your baby as well. This delivery is done through surgical operation under the influence of anesthesia.
If in case this pain is due to gallbladder stones you will have to get it removed immediately. When your gallbladder gets clogged with toxins it stops functioning normally and develops these painful stones. Even after the surgery there could be traces of infection left in your body hence you will be given antibiotics for couple of more days. You might be kept in hospital for a longer period of time so that the heart rate of your baby could be monitored and you might need to go through some other blood tests as well. Blood tests are done regularly just to check if the infection left behind has got completely cleared or not.
Unfortunately there are some very serious and life-threatening factors as well like ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage which are liable for ovarian pain. Ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy which gets developed in the fallopian tube instead of uterus. A doctor can not save an ectopic pregnancy and it has to be removed by operation. Even in the first trimester if the ovary pain is accompanied by fever and dizziness than it should be examined for an ectopic pregnancy.
Another serious reason for ovary pain is miscarriage and miscarriage as per data occurs in at least 25% of all pregnancies worldwide. A miscarriage is believed to occur early but in rare cases it can even occur in second and third trimester. Appendicitis is also one of the common reason for ovary pain as your appendix is located very near to ovaries. The appendix is on the right side of the body and if in case the pain is coming from right side along with fever and nausea you should be examined for appendicitis. Appendix also has to be removed surgically however in this operation is a very safe and does not bring any risk to your baby’s safety. Surgery is the one and only option for appendicitis and if in case it is not removed promptly it can become a life-threatening situation for both you and your baby. All in all ovarian pain of any kind should not be taken carelessly under any circumstances.
