It is important to understand that when does implantation bleeding occur because it is often confused with your regular periods. Implantation bleeding is always confused or mistaken with menstrual periods due to their similar characteristics. When the egg gets fertilized it travels through Fallopian tube to the uterus and after reaching uterus it tries to implanting itself against the uterine wall. Due to this implantation you might experience small blood spots but still there are lot of women that to not experience any kind of discomfort or bleeding.
Implantation bleeding occurs generally after 10 to 14 days from the day of conception because the egg require some time to travel through the Fallopian tube. Generally if everything is fine implantation bleeding does not accompany any kind of pain and does not last for more than two days. But yes some woman might suffer nausea, bloating, small cramps etc and may also complain about swollen breasts, frequent urination, sensitivity to various odors which are nothing but signs and symptoms of pregnancy.
There are some essential factors that can help you figure out the differences between implantation bleeding and period.

You might experience heavy implantation bleeding as well because the blood produced by body to nourish the egg can be extra sometimes. Heavy implantation bleeding does not itself mean any kind of problem or complication but it is mandatory and highly recommended to see your doctor immediately in these cases. Because heavy bleeding can be due to ectopic pregnancy for miscarriage and both of these can be life threatening situations if not attended immediately.
