You do not need to make any changes to your eating habit in fact you need to adhere to your normal diet routine. If you can continue with your regular balanced diet before taking the test that would be good. Or better would be to eat food with high content of lean proteins, dairy products, fresh fruits or vegetables and whole grains.
During pregnancy it is imperative to take sufficient amount of liquids. If in case you are dehydrated then your insulin level will rise above the normal level and again it will impact the outcome of the test result. It is imperative for the test result to be it accurate so that Dr. can advise you with appropriate medication. Drink plenty of water daily because it will help your body to regulate your insulin and will also assist in the functioning of liver, pancreas and kidneys.
To perform the glucose pregnancy tests the doctor or his assistant would draw some blood out of your body and you might need to wait for couple of days for the test results to arrive. There could be possibility that you need to undergo a re test if the doctor feels that the results are tampered. Under normal condition your body sugar levels should be below 140 mg/dL. If in case the blood sugar level comes out to be more than 140 then you might need to be injected extra insulin. This clearly indicates that your body is not able to regulate its insulin levels. Injecting insulin is imperative so that you do not enter into any kind of diabetic coma.
If the blood sugar level comes out to be less than 140 then you are well and good. You can continue with your normal prenatal care without worrying about the sugar levels.
